Comedy is just the latest in the strategy to whitewash a despicable regime that kills critical journalists and thousands of migrants, denies women rights, and much much more.

The sad thing is there seems to be no moral boundaries anymore - I mean there’ll be a World Cup there next decade ffs.

So really if comedians are now accepting government-paid gigs there, then surely they would have no problem doing a Moscow Comedy Festival if Putin puts on one?

Or making Kim Jong laugh in Pyongyang? Kim’s Comedy Club?

If the money offered is massive enough, anything goes.

It’s a sad precedent.

And sod Jimmy Carr, who should know better, given the kind of comedians he hangs out with and calls mates, many of them LGBTQ.

I'd wonder whether StTony is going to respond after all that time you've spent moving his StTones...

Hi, not to spoil your memories, but Pret A Manger is neither French nor fancy. And even if you haven't had an issue, always check your food and drink. In Pret, food poisoning reports are ongoing, in different countries as well, despite customer deaths and injuries. Just the tip of the iceberg and from 1 site only:

Also, loving MacKellen and Tennant together: my two favourite Macbeths! I used to not like Macbeth at all, but then I heard Mackellan telling someone (Marc Marron on his pod, I think) that if they think they don’t like Shakespeare, they should watch his Macbeth. I immediately went out and bought the dvd, and he’s right: it’s changed it for me (it's from the 1970s; turns out Mackellan was very attractive in his youth!)

And then, earlier this year, I watched the Tennant/Cush Jumbo version and it blew me away. I watched it twice, and would have three times if screening had allowed. I think it is the single most perfect production of any play, ever: not only every character alive, but the costumes, sets music, fighting, etc - all amazing. Undreamed of perfection. I’ve long been searching for the perfect Hamlet, but 8 down and none can tick even half the boxes (and literally, I do keep scores 😂) And his Tomorrow knocks it out of the park (that’s the one bit in Mackellan’s that had disappointed me). Tennant is also my favourite Hamlet - and especially the best To Be. I saw Mackellan’s recent Hamlet but it was very meh. So 2-0 to David Tennant.

This is like Samuel Pepys all over again: I was literally just thinking of Oscar Wilde a couple of hours before reading this! It was because I was appreciating one of his maxims that has always served me well: ‘the only way to get rid of temptation is to give in to it’. As someone with deeply ingrained poverty habits I struggle to treat myself then end up wistfully longing for things for ages. Then I remember this advice, buy the thing I want, then can relax because I no longer want it. Accordingly, this week I’m beginning a campaign of sampling the wares of all the food outlets on campus. I don’t need to eat out at all as snacks from home would serve, and most of it probably won’t taste good (today’s jacket potato, and meatball sub, confirm this), so it’ll be a considerable waste of money - but if I forgo I shall be looking at each of the cafes/stalls longingly, so I’m getting rid of temptation right off the bat, then can chill out, content with my Hula Hoops and snickers the rest of the year.
