Hello and welcome to my Substack. I am really very excited to be giving this a go, as I hope it’s going to be a great place for me to share my writing, experiment with some new ideas and also give you extra audio and video content too. I’ve been writing a blog called Warming Up since November 25th 2002 and haven’t missed a day (it’s the second longest consecutive daily blog in the world- unless the other guy has died) and that will feature prominently, but I’m also hoping this platform will encourage me to do other bits of writing: stuff like my old Metro column, short stories and I’ve always wanted to have a crack at an episodic novel, chapter by chapter, like Charles Dickens used to do. Well we’ll see about that.

But I think it will be cool to have a place where people who like my stuff can come and interact with me and each other in (hopefully) a friendly environment without any twats in it (well I’ll still be here, but you know what I am talking about).

I am going to keep it mostly free to begin with, but if it feels like it’s turning into a thing then I might fence off some of the stuff for paid subscribers. Let’s see how it goes. I’ve always preferred a system where people who have some spare cash pay and those who don’t get it for free, so maybe that will work here too (you can pay if you wish).

I think it’s going to be a lot of fun, but then I thought that about Twitter. And Twitter was a lot of fun for ages, so fingers crossed.

My blog and other funny stuff. Very excited to see the possiblities of Substack and will be experimenting but mainly here to encourage my writing. Mostly free for now, but if I can get enough paid subs then I can really go to town!
