"Occupation?" - never been asked this for house or car insurance. Living in Australia might explain that, but why?

Teaching is also an occupation which insurers don't like. Playing around with terms but obviously being truthful still (if you haven't thought of this already) can make a difference - podcaster/author etc might allow a wider/ better range of options.

Certainly for anyone with multiple strings to their bow, the insurance "job title" thing seems like a bit of a minefield. Clearly what they put on the form has to be a legitimate representation of their job(s), although different people might have different views as to what a person with multiple jobs actually DOES or IS. If one hasn't seen Richard Herring at a stand-up venue for some time, is he actually now more the writer or podcast presenter? I̶f̶ h̶e̶ f̶a̶l̶l̶s̶ i̶n̶ a̶ f̶o̶r̶e̶s̶t̶ a̶n̶d̶ n̶o̶ o̶n̶e̶ s̶e̶e̶s̶ h̶i̶m̶ d̶o̶e̶s̶ h̶e̶ m̶a̶k̶e̶ a̶ s̶o̶u̶n̶d̶. Sadly, I would imagine that a hard-nosed insurer would argue that one's job is the remunerative activity that provides the larger part of one's income and then challenge anyone who disagrees to employ a barrister to argue that, no, it's the professional endeavour on which one spends the most time, regardless of actual earnings. As there is an agent involved, I guess that it is for them to grapple with such mundanities. Freelance entertainer?
